World Cafe on Monday, then Catcher in the Rye!

Monday should be a fun day! We are going to have a discussion about your freshman year so far. We are going to use the World Cafe model to do this. With World Cafe, you go from table to table(one person stays behind)to talk about a particular topic. We will start the day in the cafeteria. Make sure you are there at 8:15 so we can get started!

After that, we will be back in the room for a 30 minute class. I will introduce the unit for Catcher in the Rye and then Tuesday, we will pick up the books. See you Monday!

Sometimes it's good to stay inside and get some work done. I hope that was all of you this weekend. If you are caught up own your lit circle reading and you have no missing assignment, you should have been reworking your 'getting caught' narrative. I know you printed up one on Friday, but you could improve it even more. This week, we'll be doing some more work on our lit circle books and we'll look at verb tenses in your paper and you'll do some mark up to prepare for another rewrite. I will be giving your educational narratives back this week, too. Use any info I gave you on that paper to rewrite your new narrative. You'll have a sub on Monday, but I'll be in the library at lunch if you need to come by and see me about an assignment. Enjoy your Sunday afternoon!

In case I forget to tell you. Wordstock is this weekend! It's a great event with authors and books at the Oregon Convention Center. For those of you who have read Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie, he will be there on Sunday, but you have to get tickets for him. Check out www.wordstockfestival.com for details and earn some extra credit for going and writing up what you saw and heard and experienced(honors required). Enjoy!

I know you've all been working hard on your narratives this week. Keep up the good work and don't forget about your summer reading assignment, the dialogue journal, due on Friday, too. I'll be updating the grades soon. It's almost time for your first progress report, so if you are missing anything, get it in! Write me an email, text, call or come by with questions.

Almost time for a new school year! I'm excited about meeting all of you and getting to know you over the course of the year. It will be a crazy one for you; freshman year usually is, but you'll make it. Hopefully, you'll learn a lot and you'll have a good time, too. If you haven't read a book this summer yet, pick up a page turner and read on. You'll need to have read one for one of your first assignments. See you soon!
